Five Northeast Badminton juniors are preparing to compete in the individual
event of the upcoming Pan Am Junior Championship to be held in Guatemala City on
July 17-20. The five juniors, the only participants outside California, have
won a number of high level awards in various national and regional junior
tournaments to earn their spot in Guatemala.
Among them are:
Darren Yang - finalist in U11 BS and BD, third in
MXD during the 2007 Junior Nationals.Jerry Yang - finalist in U13 MXD during the 2007
Junior Nationals.
Zandra (CC) Ho – finalist in U13 GS, GD and MXD
during the 2007 Junior Nationals.
Lee Chern – second place in U15 BS during the
2008 Junior International Team Trials.
Danny Berdichevsky – second place in U17 BS and
BD during the 2008 Junior International Team Trials.
Darren and Jerry are competing in the U13 BS, BD and MXD events. CC plays GS
and MXD U13 but will play U15 GD. Lee and Danny will compete in BS and BD under
15 and 17 respectively. All five juniors have been training hard under coach
Kirill Boyarin, the junior PRO at the Maugus Club in Wellesley Hills,
Massachusetts. The Northeast Badminton Region is encouraging everyone to help support the five
players defray the cost of training and travel. Checks are to be written out to
